Kim Manley Ort

Writer, Photographer, Workshop Facilitator

Hello and welcome.

Since the beginning of 2021, I’ve been writing about Seeing Clearly on Substack, beginning with weekly practices around seeing clearly and focusing on the place where you live. Since 2023, I’ve been sorting through my writing since 2010 in search of major themes and posting monthly essays on these themes. And, I still take my daily walks, camera in hand, as a practice of paying attention to the place where I live (and occasionally post on Instagram).

You can find the latest posts, as well as the Seeing Clearly archive, by clicking on the buttons to your right. Below, you’ll find an archive of blog posts since 2010, as well as links to and information about on-demand workshops. You can sign up for my occasional newsletter too.

Book Synopsis: To Photograph is to Learn How to Die

Tim Carpenter’s book, To Photograph is to Learn How to Die, certainly has a provocative title, yet it has been a surprise bestseller and has already gone through several printings. Although not an easy read, it’s by far one of my favorite books of the year. I read it...
