On Sunday at the Plenty Market at Stratus Vineyards I spoke with a small group about photographing a plentiful autumn.
The point here was not about making the best pictures to hang on the wall that show the resplendence of this season. It was about really experiencing the season, appreciating what comes whether we like it or not.
Autumn is about plenty, abundance, and the harvest. It is filled with incredible, rich colour. It is about gathering together as a community to celebrate. Yet, it is also about going inward. It’s about death and decay, rain and fog, and making way for the new. We have to experience it all.
Here is a small taste of what I’ve experienced this fall.
I hope you’re experiencing this wonderful season. You can see my slideshow from the Plenty Market here.
“Looking up, and looking down”, yes, I like that! It’s easy to just see the beautiful fall colors in trees, but there really is so much more to experience and appreciate. I love your grape photos.
Great to see you here, Kathy. I’m hoping you experience some magic this fall.
Lovely post, Kim! “It’s about really experiencing the season” — yes!
Yes, being here with it all.
You always approach each photographic project with great thought, moving beyond the typical shots to something deeper. I especially love your “looking up, looking down” images – such beauty to be found by remembering to do so.
Thanks, Brenda.
Beautiful images, Kim. I love those two-tone mums against the colourful background and the wonderful grapes of the season! Looking up and looking down are definitely great places to go for inspiration and seeing the magic, like on your last colourful image, is exciting and uplifting!
Now I’m going to look at your slideshow from the Plenty Market!
I love your abstractions Kim! I would add one more word to your word-train for autumn…transformation!
