Rumi was a 13th century contemplative poet of love, or divine union. When I need a dose of inspiration, Rumi is near the top of my list. So, I was thrilled to see this article, 25 Life Changing Lessons Everyone Should Learn From Rumi.

Here are a few of my favourite quotes from the article, illustrated.

Light

All religions, all this singing, one song. The differences are just illusion and vanity. The sun’s light looks a little different on this wall than it does on that wall, and a lot different on this other one, but it’s still one light.

Silence

In silence there is eloquence. Stop weaving and see how the pattern improves.

You were born with potential. You were born with goodness and trust. You were born with ideals and dreams. You were born with greatness. You were born with wings. You are not meant for crawling, so don’t. You have wings. Learn to use them and fly.

Do you have a favourite Rumi quote?

Pairing images with quotes is a way of drawing out the metaphors contained within. We will do these types of exercises in Once Upon a Time: Photographs have Stories to Tell. There are 4 spots left for this new workshop, which starts Monday, March 2nd. I hope you’ll decide to take one of them.
