In a couple of days, I’m heading to the Canadian province (island) of Newfoundland for my summer vacation. This is my second of three trips to the Atlantic Ocean this year.
Why Newfoundland?
Well, it’s the only Canadian province I’ve not been to, it’s a photographer’s paradise, and I’m going with two of my best friends in the world. While it won’t be beach weather, I think I’ll experience the Atlantic ocean in a way I never have before; maybe even see some icebergs (it’s been a banner year for these). I’m very curious about what effects this rugged and wild landscape will have on me and my photography.
Fun Facts:
1. Newfoundland / Labrador is the easternmost province of Canada and the easternmost point in North America.
2. The island of Newfoundland is the seabird capital of North America.
3. The city of St. John’s, Newfoundland has one of the highest per capita concentrations of writers, musicians, actors, and comedians.
I’m also looking forward to the food, the people, the art, the hiking, and the music. And, of course, the photography. Hopefully, I’ll be posting a daily image on my Facebook page, Adventures in Seeing. For reading, I’m taking along this book about Newfoundland, Bay of Spirits, by Canada’s beloved nature writer, Farley Mowat (who died very recently).

Bon voyage! I am considering the Gaspe for August….different culture as well as whales, ocean and rugged scenery awaiting photographers.
Oh, what fun! Looking forward to seeing how you experience this place through your images.
Have a wonderful trip, Kim! A place I’ve always wanted to visit. I hope you get to see an iceberg…how exciting! Can’t wait to see the images!
What a lovely destination, Kim. I love that first image. Stunning. You will come back with some great photography and lots of different things to tell!
A special place I would like to visit someday is the Lake District in the North of England. The scenery and lighting up there is supposed to be gorgeous. Not this year though, I’ve already been away!
