Rumi was a 13th century contemplative poet of love, or divine union. When I need a dose of inspiration, Rumi is near the top of my list. So, I was thrilled to see this article, 25 Life Changing Lessons Everyone Should Learn From Rumi.
Here are a few of my favourite quotes from the article, illustrated.
All religions, all this singing, one song. The differences are just illusion and vanity. The sun’s light looks a little different on this wall than it does on that wall, and a lot different on this other one, but it’s still one light.
In silence there is eloquence. Stop weaving and see how the pattern improves.
You were born with potential. You were born with goodness and trust. You were born with ideals and dreams. You were born with greatness. You were born with wings. You are not meant for crawling, so don’t. You have wings. Learn to use them and fly.
Do you have a favourite Rumi quote?
That is very hard…I love so much of what Rumi wrote! This is one of my favorites though,
“Let the beauty of what you love be what you do.”
Yes it is hard, Patricia. You picked a good one.
“Do not be satisfied with the stories that come before you; Unfold your own myth”. Reading more of Rumi everyday..too many sticky notes..I need to get a paper book so I can highlight quotes!
Oh yes, Mary, “unfold your own myth.” Amazing.
Rumi is one of the inspirational messengers for me as well…”Why do you stay in prison when the door is so wide open? I also love the one Patricia quoted.
May each of us have all of the warmth we need today.
Oh, I love that too Pat. Reminds me of a quote from John Cage, who said we rail against the four walls and don’t realize that there is no roof.
I love all the ones mentioned here and on FB, plus so many more. And this one: “If light is in your heart, you will find your way Home.” I have more quotes from Rumi and Emerson in my notes than anyone else.
Now that’s uplifting.
Have to admit that in my 76 years I had not heard of Rumi. But thanks to you Kim I will be catching up but for now, after doing a quick Google search I have chosen these two quotes.
“And so it is, that both the Devil and the angelic Spirit present us with objects of desire to awaken our power of choice.”
“When you feel a peaceful joy, that’s when you are near truth.”
Never too late to read Rumi. Your quotes are wonderful and new to me. They seem related too.
Beautiful images, Kim. I love that third one – it’s so poetic.
I’m not sure I have a favourite Rumi quotation, I like so many of them. But this one speaks to me every time:
“Wear gratitude like a cloak and it will feed every corner of your life”. ~Rumi
What a great metaphor, Sandra.
Your photos with the quotes are wonderful! I also like many Rumi quotes, including those already mentioned. Another I like is: “As you start to walk out on the way, the way appears.”
“What you are seeking is also seeking you”. Love all these inspirational examples of Rumi’s work. And your gorgeous images to go along with the quotes.
Beautiful selection of quotes and images to go with them, Kim. One of my favorite Rumi quotes is
““Do not grieve. Anything you lose comes round in another form.”
Kim, I enjoyed your post. One quote I really like by Rumi-
“The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you, do not go back to sleep, do not go back to sleep.”
